Frequently Asked Questions
What is an airbrush tan?
Q:What is an airbrush tan?
A:Airbrush tanning is body airbrushing using an FDA approved ingredient, DHA, (dihydroxyacetone). It is the same ingredient in all safe self-tanning products.
How does the tan work?
Q:How does the tan work?
A:The solution contains a tanning agent called DHA (dihydroxyacetone) which reacts with the amino acids (proteins) in the outermost layer of your skin. It takes 4 to 8 hours for the reaction to complete and a tan to develop, however we suggest allowing a full 8 hours to ensure the richest color possible.
Is this safe?
Q:Is this safe?
A:The active ingredient is dihydroxyacetone and has been approved by the FDA for cosmetic applications. The balance of the spray is composed of inert carrying agents. We have not, to date, had any such reaction to our product, but we do know that some self tanning lotions using DHA have had customers experience a rash that lasts for a couple of hours and then disappears.
How long does the airbrush Last?
Q:How long does the airbrush Last?
A:The length of the tan is determined by different factors. One is the skin type of each individual. A person’s skin type will react to an airbrush tan very much like it does to the natural sun. It also depends on the amount of “wear.” Only the outermost layer of skin is “tanned”. As the skin layer is lost, so is the tan. Wear comes from rubbing, soaking in water or long showers, tight clothing, “scratchy” clothing, or bleach. Another factor in the length of the tan is how hydrated you keep your skin. The more you moisturize, the longer it will last. For most people, the tan will last 5-7 days, but some have lasted as long as 12 days.
What should I wear to be sprayed and will it damage my clothes?
Q:What should I wear to be sprayed and will it damage my clothes?
A:You can wear a swim suit just as you would at the beach and our spray will wash out just fine without damage to your suit or you may wish to avoid tan lines completely, it’s your choice. We also supply disposable bikini tops and bottoms.
Will I look orange?
Q:Will I look orange?
A:No. The only way that would happen is if you use self tanners at home in addition to getting the spray tan. That would result in too much DHA (the tanning agent) and could result in an “orange” appearance. The tan will, however, look different on every skin type.
Will my tan look streaky or blotchy?
Q:Will my tan look streaky or blotchy?
A:Our airbrush tan has a delivery system that provides an even application thereby avoiding streaking and blotching.
How should I prepare for the tan?
Q:How should I prepare for the tan?
A:It is important that you exfoliate your skin in preparation for your session. Skin that is exfoliated properly will make your tan look better, and it will last longer. Also, please remove any deodorant. Remember to avoid showering after the tan for at least 8 hours.
